Game 2 - The Snell Cup
A rematch of last year's Snell Championship had the Bears vs the Wolves. The two teams had identical records in the regular season. The Bears won the season series 2-1 against the Wolves giving them the tiebreaker and first place.
- The Wolves jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead with goals from Rushton and Van Dam.
- The Bears claw back to tie the game at 3-3 after the first period.
- A back and forth second period concludes at 5-5 going into the final frame.
- Ben Penny rip from the Power Play pick the Bears up 6-5.
- Scoring leader Jordan Van Dam rips 2 in a row for a 7-6 Wolf lead.
- Ben Penny comes in clutch with a goal that trickles in to tie at 7-7 with 2 minutes remaining.
- In the event of a tie, the SWOLL way is a shootout! even in the championship.
- However we would not need a shootout tonight. As John Burke and the Wolves cause a turnover in their end resulting in a 2-1. Burke feeds Carter Teneycke who buries the game winning goal with 1:16 left in the game!
What a game, what a season!
Major thank you to all of the players, referees, timekeepers, volunteers, players, parents and fans for making SWOLL 2023 one of the best seasons.
See you all next year!
