2023 Snell Championship Saturday

Wow, what a night of lacrosse. It seems that every SWOLL Championship Saturday yields high skill, competitive games. With another huge crowd in the stands, the games did not disappoint.

Game 1 - The Megabowl!

The SWOLL consolation prize. Has and always will be the Megabowl.
The Bucks have struggled with attendance all year, but their core group showed up ready to play. The Falcons always role deep but were missing a few pieces.
The game started with the Bucks coming out to an early lead, before the Falcons clawed back to tie, first period finishes 3-3.
The second and third were back and forth with the lead changing hands multiple times!
Late in the third the Falcons took a 2 goal lead. Bucks bury to bring the deficit down to 1 with 1:30 remaining. Th Bucks mounted their final push but fell short, falling the Falcons 10-9.

Game 2 - The Snell Cup

A rematch of last year's Snell Championship had the Bears vs the Wolves. The two teams had identical records in the regular season. The Bears won the season series 2-1 against the Wolves giving them the tiebreaker and first place.

  • The Wolves jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead with goals from Rushton and Van Dam.
  • The Bears claw back to tie the game at 3-3 after the first period.
  • A back and forth second period concludes at 5-5 going into the final frame.
  • Ben Penny rip from the Power Play pick the Bears up 6-5.
  • Scoring leader Jordan Van Dam rips 2 in a row for a 7-6 Wolf lead.
  • Ben Penny comes in clutch with a goal that trickles in to tie at 7-7 with 2 minutes remaining.
  • In the event of a tie, the SWOLL way is a shootout! even in the championship.
  • However we would not need a shootout tonight. As John Burke and the Wolves cause a turnover in their end resulting in a 2-1. Burke feeds Carter Teneycke who buries the game winning goal with 1:16 left in the game!

What a game, what a season!

Major thank you to all of the players, referees, timekeepers, volunteers, players, parents and fans for making SWOLL 2023 one of the best seasons.

See you all next year!
