South West Ontario Winter Lacrosse League

SWOLL 2022 Week 1

It wouldn't be a SWOLL night without some snow! After a big downpour of snow, we still saw very strong numbers for an exciting week 1 of winter lacrosse. Based on some of our cardio levels, the extra guys were a sight for sore legs :)

After a lot of roster speculation (smack talk) from our team Captains, we got to get a feel for how each team will shape up this year. Looks like it will be another competitive year

GAME 1 - FALCONS VS BEARS

Captain Taylor Best came in feeling very confident with his roster. The game began with a quick Falcon 2-0 lead and everything seemed to be going according to plan for the Falcons. The Bears then woke up from their winter hibernation, and started clawing back.

The first period and beyond saw a few lead changes, a lot of back and forth high paced action, before the bears ran away with things in the 3rd period.

A big 4 goal performance from Riley Matthews combined with a strong night in net from Karter Romaniuk with the big team defence we expected brought home the first win of the year for the Big Bad Bears.

GAME 2 - WOLVES VS BUCKS

In game 2, the Bucks started the game with a thin herd, missing some key pieces including the Cox brothers. The Wolf pack capitalized! Attacking swiftly to a 7-2 lead.

There is power in numbers, and the rest of the Bucks filled in and got their legs under them and stampeded to a big comeback. The game was tight for a while, only to see the Bucks take their first lead of the game in the third period.

The Wolves were looking to slow down after their first period sprint, but a few late goals, capped off by Captain Scott Hummel putting the pack on his back and scoring the game winning goal with under a minute remaining to seal the victory!
