SWOLL Season 7 Opener: Shootout Thrillers and Furious Comebacks!

The wait is finally over! Season 7 of SWOLL exploded onto the floor this week, kicking off with the kind of high-intensity, tight-checking action that fans have been craving. If Week 1 is any indication, we are in for an absolute rollercoaster of a season.

Game 1: Muskies vs. Polars The opening faceoff saw a clash of titans as the Muskies looked to make a statement against the reigning champion Polars. It was a defensive clinic early on; while the offenses looked a little rusty shaking off the off-season cobwebs, the goaltenders were in mid-season form immediately. The first frame ended in a gritty 1-1 deadlock.

As the legs warmed up, the goals started coming, but neither team refused to give an inch. They traded blows all night, locking it up at 4-4 after the second and remaining inseparable at 7-7 when the final buzzer sounded. That meant only one thing: Shootout! The drama continued deep into the late rounds. The Muskies had the game on their sticks, sitting on the brink of an upset victory, but the champions showed their resilience. The Polars fought back from the edge to extend the shootout and ultimately buried the winner to escape with the points.

Game 2: Bucks vs. Wolves In the nightcap, we saw a classic "Original 4" rivalry renewed as the reformed Bucks took on the Wolves. The Bucks wasted no time, coming out of the gate flying and stunning the Wolves with a dominant 4-1 first period. The Wolves tried to claw back in the middle frame, but they ran into a brick wall of solid Bucks goaltending, ending the second down 6-2.

However, box lacrosse is a game of endurance. In the third, the Wolves' deep bench began to pay dividends. As the Bucks began to fade, the Wolves turned up the heat, mounting a furious comeback attempt. The goals started pouring in, but the clock was the Bucks' best friend. Despite the late surge, it was just too little, too late for the Wolves, and the Bucks held on by their fingernails for a thrilling 9-8 victory.

The Verdict What a spectacular way to drop the ball for Season 7! If the rest of the year brings this level of competition, we are in for a treat. Get your rest, tighten up those laces, and we will see you all next week for Round 2!
